DALLAS, TX, May 20, 2021 — Republican candidate for Texas governor Don Huffines today received the endorsement of Jeff Younger, a state leader in the movement to ban sex reassignment surgery, hormone therapy, and puberty blockers for minors. Younger, the father of an eight-year-old boy, began his crusade to protect Texas children after his former wife began transitioning his son into a girl. Earlier this month, Republican legislators in the Texas House killed a bill that would have banned sex reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for minors.

In a video of his endorsement for Huffines, Younger said:

“I’m fighting for my son’s life because our politicians refuse to ban the barbaric practice of transition therapy, puberty blockers, and even genital mutilation surgery on kids. …Abbott’s silence and inaction is endangering Texas children. But from the beginning, Don Huffines has stood with me to protect Texas children.”

Huffines said of the endorsement:

“I am proud to have Jeff stand with me as we take on the cowardly political elites who have failed Texans for too long. Jeff’s son is being abused. It’s horrific that Texas Republicans are letting it happen. As governor, I will support a ban on the imposition of sexual and gender transition therapy on children. We will protect innocent children like Jeff’s son.”

When asked about Younger’s story in 2019, Governor Greg Abbott released a brief statement on Twitter saying “the matter” was being “looked into” by the Office of the Texas Attorney General and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Abbott has refused to comment or take action on the situation since that time.
