DALLAS, TX, January 4, 2022 — Today, a report by Texas Scorecard revealed that Greg Abbott has ordered Texans to fly their flags at half-mast on January 8 in honor of former U.S. Senator Harry Reid. A Democrat who served 30 years in the U.S. Senate, Reid shepherded Obamacare and was a prominent supporter of gun control and abortion.
Conservative Republican candidate for governor Don Huffines condemned Greg Abbott’s decision to honor the Democrat lawmaker and issued the following statement:
“Harry Reid was a Far-Left lawmaker whose views and actions in Congress were contrary to the values of everyday Texans. He defended abortion, undermined Texans’ Second Amendment rights, and was known for viciously attacking Republicans. With this action of ordering flags to fly half-mast, Abbott has shown more respect for other career politicians than for Conservative Texans. Harry Reid is not an individual Texans should look up to, and I am calling on Greg Abbott to rescind his order.”
“Texans deserve a governor who fights for their values, not a failed leader who is more interested in bowing down to Democrats. If Greg Abbott does not rescind his order to lower the flags to half-mast in honor of Democrat Harry Reid, I hope Texas patriots will defy him and fly Old Glory at full height.”
Don Huffines is a proud fifth-generation Texan, husband, father, grandfather, and self-made entrepreneur. A committed conservative, Huffines is fighting to safeguard Texans’ elections, phase out property taxes, and secure the border once and for all. Huffines is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott from the right in the Texas Republican primary. Texans deserve leadership. No excuses.
Don Huffines, an actual Republican.
