Huffines Demands Abbott Stop Opposing Oliverson’s Property Tax Relief Bill
DALLAS, TX, September 29, 2021—As Texans’ property taxes continue to climb, conservative candidate for governor Don Huffines called out Greg Abbott for refusing to support commonsense legislation previously offered by State Rep. Tom Oliverson. This legislation would provide serious, substantial, and lasting tax relief for Texans by using surplus state dollars to buy down school taxes.
Huffines issued the following statement:
“Despite repeatedly promising Texas voters to cut their property taxes, Greg Abbott has left Texans with higher bills each year. Instead of fighting to cut taxes, Abbott has failed to work for the passage of commonsense conservative plans to cut them like State Rep. Tom Oliverson’s House Bill 90. Abbott’s lack of support has prevented this legislation from coming to the floor and passing the Texas House. This must end.”
Huffines further added:
“Tom Oliverson’s bill is a strong piece of legislation very similar to what I have proposed in my campaign. It has widespread Republican and even Democrat support, yet Greg Abbott won’t make it a priority. When I am governor, cutting property taxes and putting them on a path to zero will be a top priority. Texans deserve leadership, no excuses.”
Don Huffines is a proud fifth-generation Texan, husband, father, grandfather, and self-made entrepreneur. A committed conservative, Huffines is fighting to safeguard Texans’ elections, phase out property taxes, and secure the border once and for all. Huffines is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott from the right in the Texas Republican primary. Texans deserve leadership. No excuses.
