Following U.S. President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and announcement of plans to relocate nearly 4,500 Afghans to Texas—more than any other state except California— conservative candidate for governor Don Huffines outlined his opposition to the move.
Huffines issued the following statement:
“Our state is already being invaded by hundreds of thousands illegal aliens every month, we do not need thousands of Afghans in addition to the overwhelming numbers of non-citizens already in our state. Greg Abbott and the Texas Legislature must use every available state power to prevent this from happening.”
Huffines further added:
“Texans want a secure border and leaders who put their interests first, not second or third to non-citizens. The federal government has proven it will never secure the border and their announced intention to bring thousands of Afghans to Texas shows that once again they are putting citizens last. Texas leaders must stand up to the federal government on both fronts.”
Don Huffines is a proud fifth-generation Texan, husband, father, grandfather, and self-made entrepreneur. A committed conservative, Huffines is fighting to safeguard Texans’ elections, phase out property taxes, and secure the border once and for all. Huffines is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott from the right in the Texas Republican primary. Texans deserve leadership. No excuses.
