FACT CHECK: Yes, Texas Can Eliminate School Property Taxes

DALLAS, TX, September 13, 2024 — Don’t believe the Dallas Morning News Editorial Board’s duplicitous lies!

The DMN Editorial Board wrote about how conservatives such as myself are fighting for the elimination of school property taxes but used numbers for eliminating all property taxes. Why? Because they know that Texas can ELIMINATE the school property tax over ten years with NO new taxes, NO tax increases, and NO changes in school funding.

FACT: School property taxes provide the biggest line item on the Texas taxpayers’ bill

FACT: The state of Texas already funds about 40% of government school budgets

FACT: We can make that number 100% and take the school M&O property tax burden off local property owners, homeowners, renters, and businesses

FACT: The Texas Legislature can return our recurring state surpluses to taxpayers by gradually reducing the school property tax to zero

FACT: Huffines Liberty Foundation research shows we can do this over ten years with NO new taxes, NO tax increases, and NO changes in school funding

Thank you to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick for continuing to explore all possibilities to give taxpayers permanent property tax relief. All Republicans need to unite behind Governor Greg Abbott’s call for the state of Texas to eliminate all school property taxes over ten years.
