Taxpayers Gain a Champion in the Comptroller's Office
DALLAS, TX, JULY 2, 2026 – Republican businessman and former Texas State Senator Don Huffines released the following statement:
“I'm honored by the trust Governor Abbott has placed in me. Few understand the weight of this office the way he does. The Comptroller of Public Accounts is the financial command center of the eighth-largest economy in the world, and Texas spends over $500 million a day, seven days a week.
“I'm stepping forward now because this office is too important to sit unfilled. But make no mistake: this campaign is not over. Mary Catherine and I will keep traveling the Lone Star State, listening to Texans and working for every vote in November to beat the Democrats who believe government never has enough of your money.
“As your Chief Financial Officer, I'll bring a private-sector mindset to the public sector and DOGE Texas government to find out exactly where your money is going. Every taxpayer is a customer who should be treated with respect.
