Texas spends over $500 million a day, seven days a week. Don Huffines will conduct forensic audits across all local governments and state agencies to ensure tax dollars are spent properly and transparently. Under a Huffines administration, no one in government will feel safe from a surprise audit. He will shift the focus of the Comptroller’s office away from auditing businesses and toward aggressively auditing government spending, finding savings, and returning budget surpluses to taxpayers through property tax relief for businesses, renters, and homeowners.

Working with the Legislature, Huffines will advance creative, forward-looking solutions to modernize highways, airports, ports, and power systems. As the state’s chief purchasing officer, he will review major contracts, including TxDOT’s, to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and ahead of the demand curve, reducing traffic and keeping Texas open for business.
